MANCHESTER, NH – A school bus veered off I-93 in Manchester and ended up going over a 70-foot embankment in the woods. There were no children on board, said State Police.
At about 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 8, State Police Troop B headquarters received a report of a single-vehicle accident involving a school bus. The bus driver was the lone occupant.
State police determined that the bus was traveling northbound when the driver attempted to slow the bus due to traffic, and lost control of the bus. The bus traveled across the high speed lane and into the guardrail on the high speed side of the Interstate, before going over the guardrail and coming to rest approximately 70 feet down the embankment.
At the time of the crash police said it had been snowing for several hours and the roadway was covered with snow and slush. Portions of the high speed, middle and high speed breakdown lanes were closed for approximately four hours while the school bus was removed. At one point, all travel lanes were closed for a few minutes to complete the removal. Troopers from Troop B were assisted by Troop G Troopers, Manchester Fire and the NH Department of Transportation.
Traffic was backed up along I-93 due to the crash.
No further in formation was released by police.
