It was a Memorial Day Parade for the record books, spectators lining Elm Street to wave flags and cheer on those who participated in the city’s annual parade. Many veterans groups marched alongside students from the city’s middle and high schools, and the line-up included classic cars, units on horseback, and dignitaries representing local, state and national office.

Mayor Joyce Craig led the procession, flanked by U.S. Congressman Chris Pappas and U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan. The parade moved south ending at Veterans Park, where a service was held honoring those from Manchester who gave all in service to their country.

Originally known as Decoration Day, this patriotic holiday originated following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Unofficially, Memorial Day marks the beginning of the summer season.
