MANCHESTER, NH – Sam A. Shelby, 29, of Manchester, passed on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 after fighting a long courageous battle with addiction.

He was born in Manchester to Alan and Donna Shelby. Sam was a graduate of Manchester Memorial High School and attended Plymouth State and NH Technical Institute. An avid basketball player, he was a member of high school, CYO, and state travel teams.

Sam lived in the Malibu and Los Angeles, CA, areas where he found recovery for a time and even worked in the recovery field. He touched many lives with his infectious smile and warm, kind heart. His selfless ability to connect with people was evident. The family wishes to thank all of those people working in recovery that helped him in his search to be well. It is because of them that we got to enjoy Sam longer than most who die from this terrible disease.

Sam leaves behind his loving parents Alan and Donna Shelby of Hampton; sister Jocelyn Shelby of Hampton; Aunts Sandra Pearson of Salem, Mass., and Brenda Shelby of Middleton; Uncles Robert Pearson of Nashua, and Charles Pearson of De Soto, KS. Sam was predeceased by his grandfather’s Donald Pearson and Elmer Shelby; grandmother’s Ruth Pearson and Ruth Shelby; and uncle, Frank Shelby.

SERVICES: Visitation will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St. Manchester, on Monday July 17 from 4-8 p.m.. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 18 at 10 a.m., at St. Pius X Church, 575 Candia Road Manchester, with Father Simoneau officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Mt.
