Saint Anselm sweeps SNHU in basketball doubleheader

Men’s Ice Hockey

The Hawks took a 5-2 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Monday.

Junior Jonathan Folsom (Middleton, Mass.) and senior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) posted first period goals for Saint Anselm, with Ferraro’s goal coming on the power play.

Freshman Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) added another power play goal in the third period, with the Hawks getting additional goals from freshmen Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) and Chris Lemay (Salem, N.H.)

The Hawks (5-3-1) return to Sullivan Arena for each of the next six games, starting with this Saturday’s 4 p.m. contest against Trinity (Conn.).

Women’s Basketball

The seventh-ranked Hawks survived against local rival SNHU on Tuesday night with an 84-83 victory on the road.

Saint Anselm led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but the Penmen held the lead with less than a minute left in the game until a layup from junior Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) and a completed free throw from freshman Macy Spinks (Luton, England) put the Hawks back in the lead for good.

Steinman finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks while Spinks and senior Sara Messler (Durham, N.H.) each finished with 11 points.

Saint Anselm (5-0, 3-0 Northeast-10) next faces Mercy (N.Y.) on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m.

Men’s Basketball

The 19th ranked Hawks needed overtime, but eventually defeated local rival SNHU on Tuesday, 104-93.

Junior Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) had a career-high 29 points, setting a program record for free throws completed during a road game with 19. Paul also contributed 16 rebounds.

Freshman Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) was close behind with 24 points and senior Danny Evans (Leeds, United Kingdom) added a career-high 21.

With the win, Saint Anselm climbs to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
