Saint Anselm gets first home volleyball win ever against New Haven

Women’s Volleyball

The Hawks earned their first-ever home victory against the University of New Haven on Friday.

Saint Anselm needed just three sets for the win, but each set was close, with the New Haven taking at least 20 points in all three sets.

On her birthday, junior Elise Jolly (Merrimack, N.H.) had a team-high 11 kills, with freshman Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) contributing 25 assists.

The Hawks (16-8, 6-2 Northeast-10) return to Stoutenburgh Gymnasium for their next matchup against Southern Conn. St. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.

Women’s Hockey

In the battle of the birds, it was Ravens over Hawks on Friday, with Franklin Pierce earning a 3-0 shutout over Saint Anselm.

Junior goaltender Kia Castonguay (Ipswich, Mass.) had 21 saves for Saint Anselm in the losing effort, which saw the Hawks go 0-for-9 on the power play.

Saint Anselm (4-3-0, 4-3-0 New England Women’s Hockey Association) plays Franklin Pierce again on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.

Men’s Hockey

Lebanon Valley achieved a 3-1 victory over the Hawks at Sullivan Arena on Friday night.

Saint Anselm’s only goal came 12:59 into the second period, scored by senior Ryan Spillane (Franklin, Mass.)

Despite the deficit in goals, Saint Anselm outshot the Dutchmen (30-20) and matched them in the faceoff circle, with both teams getting 29 wins in the dot.

Next up for the Hawks (0-1-0) is Worcester State. That game starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday following the women’s contest.
