Saint Anselm advances to NE-10 field hockey championship

Here’s what’s been going on lately in Saint Anselm College sports.

Field Hockey

Saint Anselm will meet Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday to see who will be this year’s Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Champion.

The Hawks earned their berth in the finals with a 1-0 victory over Assumption on Friday. Senior Mary Nee (Canton, Mass.) posted her fourth game-winning goal of the 2019 season, scoring the contests only goal just under 46 minutes into play.

All of the Hawks’ 18 victories this year have come via shutout.

Men’s Ice Hockey

The Hawks fell 3-1 on Friday against Babson College.

Sophomore Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) scored the Hawks’ only goal 4:40 into the first period.

On Saturday, they defeated Saint Michel’s in their first Northeast-10 Conference game of the year, 3-2. There, junior Frank Ferrara (Winthrop, Mass.) had a pair of goals, and senior Trey Aiello (Williamsburg, Va.) also scored.

Saint Anselm (2-4) next faces Stonehill in a pair of road contests next weekend.

Men’s Basketball

Saint Anselm left the Bentley Tip-Off Classic with victories over Concordia College and Wilmington University.

The Hawks defeated Concordia on Friday, 83-69. Sopomore Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) scored 19 points and was 6-for-9 from the field while senior Danny Evans (Leeds, United Kingdom) had 16 points and seven assists.

Against Wilmington on Saturday, Saint Anselm won 86-63. Five Hawks reached double digits, with juniors Alonzo Jackson (Medford, Mass.) and Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) leading the team with 17 points each.

Junior Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark) reached 600 career points with his nine-point effort.

Saint Anselm begins their Northeast-10 schedule against Saint Michael’s on Wednesday.
