Well, the good news is the odds are very low that there will be any more doubleheaders against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are now 1-5 this year in truncated seven-inning doubleheader games against Binghamton this season, dropping two games to the visiting Ponies on Saturday night.

In Game One, New Hampshire got on the board first, sending two runs across the plate in the second. That lead held until the top of the fourth, when a Binghamton rally brought every batter in the lineup to the plate.

The Ponies left that inning with three runs off two hits and four walks, but that wouldn’t be all. Champ Stuart added another run in the fifth on a line drive that bounced off Fisher Cats pitcher Justin Shafer.

Derrick Loveless came home shortly after hitting his first triple of the year in the bottom of the seventh, but that would be it, with Binghamton finishing the contest with a 4-3 outcome.

Both teams had eight hits in the first game, but in Game Two, offense was much harder to come by.

Binghamton limited the Fisher Cats to just two hits: a single by Andrew Guillotte and a double by Ryan McBroom. Guillotte also had a hit in the first game, bringing his hitting streak up to nine games.

The Rumble Ponies could only muster five hits. However, two of them came in the second, enough to bring David Thompson home, and two more would come in the seventh to load the bases. In that seventh inning situation, Colton Plaia added an insurance run on a fielder’s choice to the right side of the infield.

Casey Delgado (5-4) got the win in Game One for his five innings, with Tim Peterson earning his fourth save of the year for work in the sixth and seventh. The Game Two win went to Ben Griset (2-0), with Cory Burns earning the save for his perfect seventh.

Jon Harris (2-8) and Kender Villegas (1-1) were the Game One and Game Two losers for New Hampshire respectively.

Harris was on the hook for all of Binghamton’s runs, leaving two outs into the fourth. He gave up seven of their eight hits in that game, on top of half a dozen walks.

Villegas made only his second start of the year so far, his first coming in an earlier doubleheader performance against Portland in May.

His day would end after four innings, scattering three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in total.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 1:35 p.m. contest. Mickey Jannis (5-2, 3.80) seeks to get a second win this year against the Fisher Cats, he’ll face New Hampshire’s Conner Greene (3-5, 3.62)
