MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester School of Technology students have never had opportunity like they do now. Since being recognized as a full-time high school they were able to secure funding to start a robotics program, and with only a few months under their belt, they have had great success.

Contributions from mentors, teachers, and funding from the Manchester Rotary Club to the tune of $6,000 has allowed the kids to excel quickly. The MST robotics team named “Fusion” is in third place in all of New England, with the goal of winning again at the District competition this weekend at UNH. If they win there it will enable them to go to the World Championship from April 26-29, 2017, and thats where the Manchester Rotary Club comes in…

The cost to go to the World Championship is high, but the experience for these kids will be unforgettable and the Manchester Rotary Club wanted to step in and lead the way to make sure the kids had funding to get there. Many of the kids on the Robotics team are also a part of the Rotary Interact Club, which is a high school club sponsored by the Manchester Rotary Club.

“Sue Manchester, who is our foundation committee chair, did a great job working with our committee members to discuss funding the MST Robotic Team. As a club we couldn’t be more proud of what these kids are doing – especially when they are already part of the Rotary Organization. It is our mission as a club to empower kids in this city to grow and have these kinds of opportunities,” says Andrew York,  Manchester Rotary Club President.

MST has won all three Rookie awards so far, including the highest score attained in a match and the winner of the Boston regional event.  They have competed against 60 teams so far where some have been competing since FIRST Robotics began in 1992.  The cost to attend this competition is near $20,000.
