HARTFORD, Conn. – Jordan Romano is now the first pitcher in New Hampshire Fisher Cats history to begin a season with a 7-0 record.

Romano earned that lofty honor in Wednesday’s early contest, pitching hitless six innings in a 7-1 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats.

Hartford was unable to get a hit until Ryan Metzler’s home run in the eighth off Dusty Issacs. Outside of Metzler, Garrett Hampson was the only other Yard Goat with a hit, a harmless double in the ninth.

Although he only threw 60 pitches, no official statement has been given as of Wednesday afternoon on the reason for Romano’s departure.

For the third straight day, the Fisher Cats reached double digits in the hit column, getting all the runs they would need in a third inning that saw five of the first six batters record a hit, culminating with league leading 12th home run of the year.

New Hampshire would add another run in the fifth after beginning that inning with another string of hits. The seventh run came courtesy of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s leadoff home run in the seventh.

At the plate, Guerrero led the way, going 4-for-5 with two doubles on top of the homer. Jonathan Davis also contributed a triple as part of his two-hit day, with Biggio and Andrew Guillotte also ended the day with two hits apiece.

With the win, the Fisher Cats rise to 6-0 at Dunkin’ Donuts Park, with their next game in Hartford on July 26.

The Fisher Cats now return to Manchester for a five-game series against the Binghamton Rumble ponies, beginning with Thursday’s 6:35 p.m. contest.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the starting pitchers for both teams in Thursday’s contest have yet to be announced.
