MERRIMACK, NH – Diagnosed with leukemia, a local infant named Pierce Eastman would have died if not for an immediate blood transfusion. Now, the American Red Cross hopes to help another child like Pierce. On Monday, June 25, the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive in honor of Pierce, now a healthy seven-year-old boy.

Overall, Pierce has received 12 whole blood transfusions and six platelet donations, with many like him in the local area in need of support from blood donors.

The blood drive will be held at Movement Church at 27 Depot St. in Merrimack from 12 to 5 p.m.

The first 20 donors will receive a surprise gift.

To donate, participants are encouraged to visit redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code “Pierce” or call 1-800-RED-CROSS

Disclosure: The author of this article donated one of the gifts to be given to the donors.
