DURHAM, NH – There was a massive turnout at the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center in Durham to hear President Barack Obama campaign on behalf of Hillary Clinton Monday afternoon. However, not everyone there supported the Democratic nominee. Among those were Brian Shields and Daniel Day, volunteers for Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld.

“I really feel like a lot of people are unsatisfied with Hillary Clinton,” said Day. “We’re here to show people there’s a legitimate third option that probably believes in a lot more of the things that millennials and former Bernie supporters care about than Hillary Clinton does.”

Shields and Day explained that they believe their candidate’s views on issues such as legalizing marijuana, gay marriage and foreign policy are more in line with the college crowd in attendance.

“They [Johnson and Weld] have both been long-time advocates for personal freedom,” said Day. “They support legalizing marijuana. Hillary Clinton still isn’t a supporter of legalized marijuana, and she didn’t become a supporter of same sex marriage until she started running for president again.”

Shields noticed that at least a few people in the crowd were receptive to his message.

“We’ve had some good responses, and of course most of these people are here for Hillary,” said Shields. “But we are just here to raise awareness because a lot of people don’t know that there are more options than just two.”

The low poll numbers for Johnson may suggest otherwise, but Shields and Day are convinced that their candidate will be the next president.

“I’m confident we can pull off a win tomorrow,” said Day.
