MANCHESTER, NH – TEDxAmoskeagMillyard is pleased to announce that its 2016 event will take place on November 12, 2016, at Pinkerton Academy’s Stockbridge Theatre in Derry. The independently organized local event, licensed by TED, will feature a curated group of locally nominated and nationally known speakers, performers, and internationally renowned TED Talks videos that will fall within the theme of “Recharge. Reimagine. Reboot.”

A New Hampshire Business Review 2016 Best of Business Award Recipient in the category of Most Inspiring Talks, TEDxAmoskeagMillyard has grown over the years since it first was organized locally in 2011. Previous venues have included UNH- Manchester, located in Manchester’s historic Amoskeag Millyard, and the campus of Southern New Hampshire University, which hosted the event from 2013 to 2015. The move to Pinkerton will allow for the event’s largest audience yet, as the Stockbridge Theater seats up to 881 people.

“Each year this event brings together thought-provoking speakers and an engaged audience to create an inspiring day of ideas worth spreading,” says Eric Ratinoff, lead organizer of the event since 2013. “Last year, we were sold out with a waiting list, so we’re really excited to grow the event, and offer a live TEDx experience to more people than ever before.”

Notable New Hampshire speakers and performers from previous years include Dan Habib, award-winning filmmaker and White House appointee for the Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities; Deepika Kurup, internationally-known inventor, scientist, and clean water advocate (and Nashua High School South student at the time of her talk); and Aaron Tolson, world-class tap dance artist and Riverdance performer.

Earlier this year, a TEDx AmoskeagMillyard 2014 talk given by Tania Simoncelli, “Should you be able to patent a human gene?,” was selected by the TED Editorial team to be posted on TED.com. At the time of her talk, Simoncelli was Assistant Director for Forensic Science in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and previously had served as the Science Advisor to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Simoncelli’s talk, which tells the story of the ACLU’s challenge to U.S. patent law that went all the way to the Supreme Court, has now been viewed more than one million times.

More news and announcements to come, including this year’s speakers and performers. Ongoing updates can be found via social media including facebook.com/TEDxAmoskeagMillyard and Twitter @TEDxAmoskeag (#TEDxAM16).
