MANCHESTER, NH – There I was, 30,000 feet in the air, on a Southwest flight aloft somewhere between Manchester and Chicago, when I overheard a conversation going on just behind me.

Susan Ann Wall was busy autographing her latest novelette, “Taking Back Goodbye,” No. 5 in the Superstitious Brides Romance series, for a brand new in-flight fan.

“Did I hear you say you were a romance writer?” I ask her, from across the aisle.

“Yes, would you like a book?” said Wall, of Lisbon, who was traveling with her husband, Seth, and their three kids for some quality family time.

Wall explained that her writing career began in earnest after reading “Wife for Hire” by NY Times best-selling author Janet Evanovich.

“I read it in four hours, threw it on the floor and said, ‘Dammit! I can do this!’ and I’ve been writing ever since,” says Wall, who also writes erotic romance under the pen name Ann Victor.

Her first book was self-published as a fundraiser for Littleton’s 2011 Relay for Life fundraiser, and the response was so good, Wall just kept writing.

“It was called “A Flame Burns Inside,” and that was going to be it. I was going to try to get an agent, but as it turns out, I love self publishing, and so I just stuck with it,” says Wall.

Eighteen books later, she’s loving every minute of cranking out the books, and collecting fans wherever she goes – even on airplanes – with more than 1,800 followers on her Author Susan Ann Wall Facebook page, and growing.

When not penning racy contemporary romance stories, or expanding her repertoire writing erotic romance, Wall is an instructional curriculum designer.

She describes herself as a “big dreamer and certifiable overachiever,” which sounds about right, as she talks about projects in the works and continues to pass out free copies of her novelette, all while tending to her three kids, in various stages of travel fatigue.

As “Ann Victor,” Wall heats the storyline up with her erotic fiction.

She prides herself on diversity of genre – the Superstitious Brides Romance Series is designed to be humorous women’s fiction, but she also enjoys exploring characters with “deeper underlying issues” in her erotica.

The key to success is finding inspiration wherever she goes, adding that all her “racy rule-breaking romance” stories come “straight from her heart.”

“I got into the erotic romance as an experiment, after seeing how “50 Shades” had such success. I love writing those – they’re a lot of fun, and I don’t follow the rules,” says Wall.

When asked what he thinks of his wife’s foray into the forbidden erotica zone, Seth Wall smiles.

Honestly, I haven’t read them,” he says, earning a nudge from his wife.

Wall encourages everyone with the urge to discover their inner writer to give it a try. She’s a member and current VP of Communications for the NH Chapter of Romance Writers of America, which meets monthly in Bow. You can learn more about the group here.
