NH Senate sig

On Thursday, the Senate passed the extension of the New Hampshire Health Protection Act. This means 48,354 New Hampshire citizens will continue to receive health insurance for the next two years. This includes 15,018 from Hillsborough County and 6,881 from Manchester. The state of New Hampshire has received over $400 million from the federal government to finance the program.

On the 13th of April at 7 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chamber in Manchester’s City Hall, I will hold a public forum on the New Hampshire Health Protection Act.   The Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Jeffrey Meyers, will be with me to go over the bill. The meeting is open to the public and I encourage everyone to attend.

This event is something that everyone should be aware of. The passage of the bill means that those who need health care and must have some assistance in paying for health insurance will continue to receive help. Over 6,000 people who have alcohol or drug problems have used this insurance to secure assistance. This is a step in addressing the drug problem and lowering health costs.

New Hampshire has a unique program that works, and the legislature has voted to keep it going. As April begins, the legislature is getting ready to finish its work, and the reelection season starts. Some good work has been done. More unfinished work is before us.
