220px CALEAdecalMANCHESTER, NH – A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will spend two days – Dec. 11-13 – examining all aspects of the Manchester Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

Verification by the team that the Manchester Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.

As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on December 12, 2017 at 6 p.m. The session will be conducted in the Community Room located at the Manchester Police Department, 405 Valley Street, Manchester, NH 03103.

If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session, but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call 603-792-5528 on December 12, 2017 between the hours of 2  and 4 p.m.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards.

The standards address six major law enforcement areas:

  1. Role, responsibilities, and relationships with other agencies;
  2. Organization, management, and administration;
  3. Personnel administration;
  4. Law enforcement operations, operational support, and traffic law enforcement;
  5. Detainee and court-related services; and
  6. Auxiliary and technical services.

A copy of the standards is available at the Manchester Police Department, or by contacting Accreditation Manager Greg Murphy at 603-792-5406.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Manchester Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write to: The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA®), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainesville, Virginia 20155 or www.calea.org.

The Manchester Police Department has to comply with 189 standards in order to gain accredited status. Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
