MANCHESTER, NH – In an attempt to beautify the city by infusing art, color, and creativity into the urban landscape, NH artists are invited to submit designs to paint on the traffic signal boxes in Manchester’s downtown.

Up to three designs will be chosen by a jury process and those selected artists will paint the traffic signal boxes this spring, weather permitting.  Each artist will receive a $400 stipend to cover materials and their time.

A similar project resulted in the beautification of downtown utility boxes in 2014.

Jurors: Sara Beaudry, InTown Manchester; Vicki Ferraro, Mayor’s Office; Becky O’Neil, Manchester Arts Commission; Pat Long, Member of the Board of Aldermen; Scott Aubertin, First Signs;  Jury Facilitator (non-voting member): Monica Leap, Programs Manager, Studio 550

This project is a collaboration between InTown Manchester, The City of Manchester’s Art Commission and Highway Department, and Studio 550 Art Center.  The committee is excited to see how artists interpret the call for entries. They are hoping for a wide variety of creative designs and solutions so that the most suitable ones may be chosen for installation.

The full application can be found on the Studio 550 website, under the “Opportunities” page. The deadline for completed submissions is February 22, 2016. The $25 application fee will be waived for students.

Submissions may be sent via email, regular mail, or dropped off in person at Studio 550. For more information, see www.550arts.com, call 603-232.5597 or stop by the studio at 550 Elm St. in Manchester, NH.
