MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Fire Department crews responded to the 500 block of Douglas Street Extension just before 2 p.m. on April 12 for a propane explosion that resulted in a brush fire. Crews arrived to find a homeless camp 300 feet into the woods on fire, with as many as 50 propane tanks in the area venting, which was fueling the fire.

The fire destroyed the camp and spread to a 200-square-foot area, and the fire was rapidly advancing toward homes on Blucher Street. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it reached the homes.

There was one reported injury by occupants of the homeless camp. However, no victim was found. The fire marshal’s office is working with the fire department to investigate further.
