The Attorney General’s office is leading an investigation involving a shooting in a third-floor apartment of a multi-family home on Beech Street, between Silver and Somerville streets.
Manchester Police Sgt. Brian O’Keefe referred all questions to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office, who he said was handling the “major incident.”
The shooting happened at about 7 p.m.
Just after midnight Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeffery Strelzin confirmed that they are investigating a shooting incident involving a female resident of the building.
“A Federal search warrant was executed last night at 110 Beech Street, Apartment 3, in Manchester. During the execution of this warrant, one of the officer’s weapons discharged. An adult female sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound as a result of that discharge. No other individuals at the scene were injured,” Strelzin said in a prepared statement.
Freelance photographer Jeffrey Hastings, who arrived at the scene behind fire and rescue, said there were agents wearing vests from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms outside the home at 110 Beech St. He said he also heard reports that agents may have been at the residence to execute a warrant prior to the incident.
A man at the scene, who identified himself as Miguel Cruz, said he believed a woman had been shot. He was standing just beyond the yellow police crime tape with his cousin, who he said is the son of the victim, whom he identified as Lillian Nuñez.
A crowd of neighbors stood on the corner of Beech Street, which was blocked by a pair of police cruisers. Three women walked up to ask if anyone knew who the victim was. One of the women, who did not want to be interviewed, only said the woman she knows at that address often watches her grandchildren.
Several police cruisers and unmarked detective cars remained at the scene, and more than a dozen law enforcement officials were huddled outside the residence.
