MANCHESTER, NH — Joseph Hart, 35, of 155 Milk St., Westboro, Mass., was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, and falsifying physical evidence after he allegedly shoplifted electronics from the Gold Street Wal-Mart and then ran from police, who followed him to Hannaford, where he dumped his backpack and clothes.

According to a police narrative, on December 28, 2016, Officer Bergeron-Rosa responded to Wal-Mart 725 Gold St. at 10 a.m. for a shoplifting in progress. Loss prevention officers watched as a man, later identified as Hart, took several electronic devices and concealed them into his backpack. Store loss prevention agents attempted to stop Hart, who fled on foot toward Hannaford Supermarket. As Officer Bergeron-Rosa arrived, he spotted Hart exiting through an emergency door. Hart saw the officer and ran back inside Hannaford. Responding officers searched for the suspect only to find his discarded clothing and backpack, still containing the stolen items from Wal-Mart.

Officers reviewed the security camera footage from Wal-Mart and noted Hart fled in a vehicle. Information about the vehicle was provided and Lt. Mucci located and stopped the vehicle on South Willow Street. Hart was positively identified and taken into custody. He was scheduled for arraignment in the 9th Circuit District Manchester on December 29, 2016.
