MANCHESTER, NH — Police are reassuring the public that a weekend shooting has no gang ties, following an erroneous media report.

On Friday August 7, 2015 approximately 12:30 a.m. multiple units responded to a West Side shooting. A man sustained a single, non-life threatening gunshot wound during an altercation believed to have stemmed from a disturbance within the apartment complex.

The victim allegedly confronted Marcos Nieves, 39, of Manchester, after exchanging words about the victim’s wife. This does not appear to have any gang involvement. MS-13 — for Mara Salvatrucha — was erroneously connected to this shooting by one of the reporting news agencies.

The Manchester Police Department has an officer assigned to the Safe Streets task force, which investigates all gang related incidents, especially those with possible MS-13 involvement. The Federal Bureau of Investigation spearheads the federal task force and as of today have no confirmed knowledge of MS-13 operating in New Hampshire.
