MANCHESTER, NH — The following is an example of why Manchester Police Chief Carlo Capano says he is frustrated with the court system.

According to a police narrative released Monday, on November 24, 2019 around 9 p.m., Manchester Police responded to the area of Beech and Salmon streets for a report of a man attempting to break into someone’s home. Police made contact with a man meeting the description the caller had given. He was identified as Keith Kevorkian, 33, of Derry.

Kevorkian wasn’t cooperative with police and struggled with them. He ended up getting bitten by a police dog during the arrest. Kevorkian was also found in possession of Suboxone. He was charged with loitering/prowling, possession of a controlled drug and resisting arrest. Kevorkian was booked and released on personal recognizance bail.

About five hours later, at 2:30 a.m., Manchester Police were dispatched to the area of 259 Clay St. for a report of a man trying to get into an apartment building. The caller said the man was banging on the front door and yelling.  When police arrived they identified the man as Keith Kevorkian. He was again arrested, this time for disorderly conduct and violation of bail. He was taken back to the Manchester Police Department where he was booked and ultimately transported to the Hillsborough County House of Correction. Kevorkian was arraigned Monday in Manchester Circuit Court and again released on personal recognizance bail. He has another court date on December 12.

“This is a perfect example of why my frustration continues to grow every time someone is charged with a crime and released within hours of their arrest,” Manchester Police Chief Carlo Capano said. “Manchester officers work tirelessly to serve and keep our community safe, and it disheartening to know that despite their efforts, these people are allowed to walk free and often times reoffend with little to no consequences. We don’t expect every person arrested to be held, but when it comes to public safety we have to hold people accountable.”
