HAMPTON, NH – More than 2,500 teens participated in the PF Teen Summer Challenge, choosing to get off the couch, put down their devices and get active. Planet Fitness opened its doors to teens over the summer, inviting them to work out for free at its New Hampshire locations.

Participating teens ages 15 to 18 completed nearly 12,000 workouts with the first-of-its-kind statewide initiative to help teens stay active over the summer – showcasing that teens needed a place to be active and exercise when they didn’t have gym class or school athletics to keep them moving. Nearly half of New Hampshire high school students are not getting the recommended 60 minutes of activity each day; and more than one in four NH high school students were overweight or obese in 2015.[1]

“The inaugural PF Teen Summer Challenge surpassed our expectations, and we’re pleased that so many NH teens incorporated fitness into their summer routines,” said Chris Rondeau, Chief Executive Officer, Planet Fitness. “We are thrilled that so many teens used this program to stay active over the summer. We’ve received positive feedback from teens, parents and schools throughout the state. We’re happy that Planet Fitness could play a small part in helping NH teens develop healthy habits and increase their self-esteem through physical activity.”

Both Chris Sununu, Governor of New Hampshire, and Jeffrey Meyers, Commissioner of New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, helped launch the program in June.

“I’m thrilled that so many Granite State teens took advantage of the fantastic program offered by Planet Fitness,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “The PF Teen Summer Challenge is setting the bar high for businesses and organizations across the state to give back to their communities in innovative ways. We hope other companies will follow Planet Fitness’s lead.”
