MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Manchester Monarchs won in overtime for the second straight night, taking a 2-1 victory over the visiting Reading Royals on Saturday.

Reading only goal came from Alex Roos, a rebound off a shot from Chris McCarthy.

Manchester netminder Charles Williams held the Royals scoreless over the next 45 minutes of regulation, ending the night with 40 saves.

The Monarchs struggled to find an equalizer, which finally came from Nic Pierog 13:53 into the third period. There, he found a pass from teammate Cory Ward at the top of the right faceoff circle, deftly placing the puck above Andrew D’Agostini’s glove.

Ward and Pierog connected again in the overtime period, with Ward this time sending the puck over D’Agostini’s blocker 87 seconds into the sudden death frame.

This marks Manchester’s third straight win, as they continue to fight back from sporadic early season struggles. The Monarchs currently stand in fifth place in the North Division at 34 points, five behind fourth-place Maine.

The Monarchs return to action Sunday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m., when they take on the Norfolk Admirals at SNHU Arena.
