MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University returned to the ice this weekend, finishing with a win and a loss against Franklin Pierce.

In Friday night’s home contest at the Ice Den, junior Kurt Gutting (Weymouth, Mass.) stopped 29 shots on the way to a 5-1 Penmen victory.

SNHU received power play goals from Artem Efimov-Barakov (Khimki, Russia), Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.) and Cole Stewart (Alpharetta, Ga.). Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) also picked up his fifth goal of the season at even strength and Ryan Spagnoli (Burlington, Mass.) added a shorthanded empty netter late in the contest for SNHU.

Max Kent (Sandwich Mass.) also added three assists.

One day later, Franklin Pierce exacted revenge at their home rink in Winchendon, Mass.  There, they earned a 2-1 win over the Penmen off an overtime winner from Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.)

Spagnoli scored SNHU’s only goal in the loss.

The Penmen play again next weekend with a pair of games against St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT.
