SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team began their 2019 campaign over the weekend, dropping two of three to the Coyotes of Cal State-San Bernardino.

SNHU took Friday’s game 11-6, thanks to a five-run rally in the tenth. Junior Tom Blandini (Bow, N.H.) went 3-for-5, driving in four runs and scoring three times. Blandini also added one of the Penmen’s four home runs on the day.

Saturday held a different story, with the Penmen dropping both halves of a doubleheader to the Coyotes.

CSBD took the first game 8-5 despite a 3-for-4 performance from sophomore Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.). SNHU took an early 4-0 which was negated by a pair of Coyote home runs in the fourth. The hosts added two more in the sixth to obtain a lead they would not relinquish.

SNHU’s two ninth-inning runs made it interesting, but with the tying runner on base, redshirt junior Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) struck out, sealing the Coyotes’ victory.

he Penmen return to action Thursday, Feb. 21 (6 p.m.) when they open a five-game trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., against Long Island University-LIU Post.
