MANCHESTER, NH – A Northfield man has been charged with reckless conduct and driving under the influence after striking a pedestrian Thursday afternoon in downtown Manchester.
On Oct. 25 at approximately 4:35 p.m. Matthew Pike, 24, allegedly overdosed while driving his 2004 Infinity, crashing his vehicle into a 30-year-old male pedestrian who was walking on Bedford Street. Police say Pike passed out behind the wheel due to a heroin overdose causing him to crash into the man, pinning the victim between a tree and Pike’s vehicle, near Pleasant Street.
Police say the victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries to his hip and was transported to an area hospital where he remained overnight. Pike was given NARCAN and revived by medical personnel before he was taken into custody.
Officers located a small amount of heroin during a search incident to arrest, so he was charged with reckless conduct, possession of controlled drug, operating under the influence of drugs and held on an outstanding warrant out of Merrimack County.
Pike is scheduled to appear in Hillsborough County Superior Court-North on October 26, 2018.
