MANCHESTER, NH – Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Aug. 29 at about 11:30 a.m. which caused injuries to one pedestrian and damage to an Amherst Street home. The two vehicle crash involved Noah Cassel, 18, of Merrimack, and Walter Malik, 75, of Goffstown.

Investigating officers determined Cassel was at fault for the crash after failing to yield to right of way traffic after he proceeded through a stop sign on Amherst Street as he traveled easterly across Union Street. Mr. Malik was traveling north on Union Street when Cassel’s 2007 Hyundai struck the front end of Malik’s 2009 Dodge.

The impact caused Malik’s vehicle to veer off the road, over a sidewalk and into a building located at 220 Amherst St. His vehicle struck one pedestrian who had been standing on the sidewalk as the crash occurred. Amanda Reilly, 30, of Manchester, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries when she was pushed into the building as a result of the impact from the crash. Reilly sustained a compound fracture to her ankle, but no other serious injuries were reported. Officers rendered aid to her ankle before she was transported to an area hospital.

Malik’s vehicle also damaged the siding and cable box on the home, but no structural damage was reported. His Dodge Journey rolled backwards on to the street after it struck the building. Nicolle Phillips, 38, no fixed address, was walking across the street to help Reilly when the Dodge struck her in the middle of the street as it rolled backwards from the house. She was not injured as a result of the incident and refused medical treatment.

Both operators were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, but no serious injuries were reported. Their cars were towed from the scene due to heavy front end damage on each vehicle.
