MANCHESTER, NH  Bark City – the first of its kind “roam free” canine center in the downtown area –  recently opened its doors on Hanover Street, offering the first cage-free doggy day care center where “guests” roam free, play, sleep, snack and basically spend their day as they like.

“Many of the doggy daycare facilities place rigid restrictions on their guests, regardless of what the dogs actually want to do throughout the day,” said John Phaneuf, proprietor. “At Bark City, we take an entirely different approach, allowing our four-legged guests to spend the day exactly how they want — sleeping, playing or otherwise. We also offer grooming services and a retail boutique store unlike anything else in the Manchester area.”

The “Barkery” at Bark City, modeled after a Parisian patisserie, sells fresh-made treats that dogs will love. The retail store carries a curated collection of dog-related gifts, apparel, toys, accessories, travel equipment and dog food, along with select local brands, including Lupine Collars and Wholistic Pet treats and vitamins.

Bark City guests receive loving and personalized attention throughout the day, and an abundance of free space to play in an uncrowded environment.

To ensure dogs are enjoying their experience at Bark City, dogs receive report cards describing how their day went, who they played with and a photo of the dog enjoying themselves with other dog friends. Owners can also monitor their dogs throughout the day via webcams, which offer a real-time glimpse of the pups having a great time. Only dogs that pass the Initial Temperament Consultation are allowed into the space, ensuring the facility is populated with well-socialized dogs who do well in groups. Bark City management are available to meet one-on-one with pet owners to discuss any concerns or changes in the day’s routine and guarantee expectations are being met.

The more than 5,000-square-foot center, located in downtown Manchester at 259 Hanover St., between Union and Beech streets, is open for daycare Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturdays the retail store and grooming salon is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The facility is closed on Sundays. For appointments to visit, or to secure reservations for dog grooming or other salon services, call (603) BARK CITY (227-5248) or visit: www.barkcitynh.com.

About Bark City
Bark City was created with the belief that dogs should have the freedom to spend the day exactly how they’d like to, without forced-naptime, cages or other restrictions often found at traditional doggy daycare facilities. The indoor/outdoor, cage-free, climate controlled facility allows dogs to roam and play as they please. Large windows let natural light into the 2,500-square-foot. indoor playroom, and K9Grass artificial grass flooring ensures a safe, easily-cleaned playing surface that doesn’t harbor bacteria. Dogs can also play in the smaller outdoor play area, always accessible via a doggy door. Bark City offers a unique, state-of-the-art experience to dogs and dog owners in downtown Manchester to include full grooming services and a retail boutique store.
