Operator trapped after excavator roll over at airport

LONDONDERRY, NH — An airport worker was injured when the excavator he was operating rolled over at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport Sunday morning, causing a temporary emergency situation on airport grounds.

Crews were dispatched from Londonderry Fire at 8:27 a.m. on Oct. 21 for a report of an excavator that had rolled over on its side. Airport crash fire rescue crews were on scene and attempting to assist the worker out of the excavator when Londonderry crews arrived on scene 8:33 a.m. and were escorted onto the secure side.

The on-duty Battalion Chief reported a mini-excavator on its side with extrication of the occupant complete. Crews evaluated the operator and treated him, transporting him to the hospital.

Crews handled all hazards associated with the fluids and stabilization of the vehicle. The last Londonderry unit cleared the scene at 9:45 a.m.

No serious injuries were reported.

Responding Londonderry units included Battalion 3 (on-duty shift supervisor, Engine 1, Rescue 1 and Medic 2.
