Rain limited play to just six innings in Portland, but that was enough officially for the Portland Sea Dogs, defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 2-1.
In the game’s first at-bat, which was delayed twenty minutes due to a rain delay, Jonathan Davis hit a full count double to left. He came home later in the inning on a Danny Jansen sacrifice fly.

Portland answered an inning later, beginning with a Michael Chavis first pitch single followed shortly by Mike Olt’s tenth homer of the year.
From there, the pitching took over, with the two teams combining to strand seven runners before the final rain delay two outs into the fifth.
Despite only 77 pitches, losing pitcher Shane Dawson (1-8) pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out a pair of Sea Dogs.
Portland starter Travis Lakin pitched two innings, but left after a 24-minute rain delay, with Taylor Grover (2-3) earning the win after finishing the final four innings of the contest.
Outside of the Davis double, New Hampshire’s only two other hits came from Richard Urena. Olt was the only Portland batter with a multi-hit day, adding a single to the home run.
The series continues Wednesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland. Sean Reid-Foley (4-5, 4.70 ERA) will go for New Hampshire while Kevin McAvoy (2-5, 5.37 ERA) gets the start for the Sea Dogs. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
