Officer injured attempting to arrest homeless man disrupting traffic

MANCHESTER, NH — At approximately 4:35 p.m, on August 18, 2019, police were dispatched to Granite and Canal streets for a man walking in and out of traffic. Officers were able to find the man, later identified as Matthew Dionne, 33, no fixed address,  and tried to detain him, but he ran.

A foot pursuit began. When officers were able to get a hold of Dionne he continued to struggle with them as they attempted to place him under arrest, one officer sustained a serious injury to his left leg and had to be taken to the hospital.

During the pursuit, Dionne reportedly damaged several vehicles while they were stopped at the red light. Taillights were broken and side-view mirrors ripped from cars. Dionne was charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and resisting arrest (felony).
