NASHUA, NH – One of New Hampshire’s most beloved author’s, Sy Montgomery of Hancock, will participate in a book signing for a worthy cause on Dec. 7 in Nashua. Montgomery, who so heartwarmingly recounted the long and adventurous life of the family pig, Christopher Hogwood in her New York Times bestseller, “The Good, Good Pig,” has followed up with an equally compelling tale from the animal kingdom — yet one that takes place far from her old New England barn.

On Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Albee Phillips Kitchen & Bath, 83 W. Pearl St., Nashua, the public is invited to Montgomery’s book signing and presentation of Montgomery’s latest,  The Soul of an Octopus, a Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness.”

Recently named a National Book Award finalist, all proceeds from sales of either of Montgomery’s books through Toadstool Bookshop of Milford will benefit the Greater Nashua Humane Society.  Albee Phillips Kitchen & Bath will offer complimentary gift wrapping for the occasion.  Seating is limited.

“We’re pleased to be the beneficiary of this holiday event and appreciate that it is with an author who is an advocate for all animals,” said Doug Barry, President/CEO of the Humane Society for Greater Nashua.  “We take in and care for over 2,000 pets every year and community fundraisers like this help us provide medical care, food and shelter for these animals in need.”

In the book, Montgomery explores the emotional and physical world of the octopus – and the remarkable connections this astonishingly complex, spirited creature makes with humans.  She shares the growing appreciation of the octopus, and also tells a love story.  By turns funny, entertaining, touching, and profound, The Soul of an Octopus reveals what octopuses can teach us about the meeting of two very different minds.

The Dec. 7 event came naturally for Kathy Albee Phillips, co-owner of Albee Phillips Kitchen & Bath, a certified National Kitchen & Bath Association design specialist whose love for design and animals is well-known in greater Nashua.

“A well-designed kitchen brings people together,” says Albee Phillips, her two Australian Shepherds, Bella and Cede, by her side.  “I designed our showroom to bring the community together and hosting Sy Montgomery to benefit the Greater Nashua Humane Society is  exactly how I envisioned the space being used in the  “off” hours.  I’m really looking forward to meeting her!”

A naturalist, documentary scriptwriter, and author of 20  acclaimed books of nonfiction for adults and children, Montgomery is the recipient of numerous honors, including lifetime achievement awards from the Humane Society and the New England Booksellers Association.
