MANCHESTER, NH — City water department crews are working on a water main leak on Second Street.

Crews have begun the process of shutting down the effected portion of the main which will leave eight buildings without water, said Guy Chabot, Deputy Director of Manchester Water Works.

The shutdown area is Second Street from Harvell to Schiller streets.

When asked how long the area would be without water, Chabot said it’s hard to say until crews start digging in.

“We’re waiting for utilities right now to come, and I don’t think we’ve even started digging yet. Once we start it might be four to five hours — although you never know what you’re going to find,” Chabot said. “The initial leak wasn’t too bad so hopefully it won’t take too long to fix.”

A water main fix generally takes six to eight hours to repair, start to finish, Chabot said.
