Editor’s Note: On Sunday, May 13, 20 teams from 13 states across the nation will land in DuBois, PA, in hopes of a national title in baseball and softball. The 2018 baseball field will feature the most diverse field in Small College History, with teams hailing from nine of the 13 states represented in the entire series including Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama. The Softball National Championship will add teams from Indiana, New Hampshire, Maine, and Illinois. CONCORD, NH – The team left NHTI at 9 a.m. to make the long trip out to DuBois, PA, in two 15-passenger vans (one with a small trailer hitched on to haul all of the luggage and equipment needed for the trip.)
Our first stop was for a bathroom break/stretch our legs/gas stop at a Mobil station in Southbury, CT. We made that stop at 12:30 p.m. Our last stop was for another bathroom/stretching legs stop/gas stop at the Blue Ridge Travel Plaza in Mountain Top, PA at about 3:30 p.m.
After settling into our rooms the entire team and I went next door to the Station 101 Pub & Kitchen for a late dinner. I had the lobster mac and cheese with a side of pecan-blue cheese slaw, which was excellent.
I went for a little swim before being the navigator for Coach Kerry Finnigan for a trip to the local Walmart for some of the girls to go shopping.
After that, I went back to the hotel room to get some sleep to get ready for the first official day of the USCAA World Series.
Overall, the day was great. The ride was easy except for a few delays due to construction in Hartford, Waterbury, and Danbury, Connecticut.
Cannot wait for tomorrow with the first real action of the World Series in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
