AUBURN, NH – Author Brady Carlson will read from and sign copies of his new book, “Dead Presidents: An American Adventure Into the Strange Deaths and Surprising Afterlives of Our Nation’s Leaders” (W.W. Norton, 2016) on Wednesday, March 30 at 6:30-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Carlson, a journalist at New Hampshire Public Radio and host of Weekend Edition, will stop at the library amid a National Tour for his acclaimed new nonfiction book. In “Dead Presidents,” he takes readers on an epic trip to presidential gravesites, monuments and memorials, telling the surprising origin stories of famous spots like the Washington Monument and Mount Rushmore, while introducing readers to lesser-known and surprising places like Millard Fillmore’s grave in Buffalo, N.Y. — just yards away from the grave of funk legend Rick James – and a town in Iowa that plays a sport known as “Hoover-Ball.”
“We’re thrilled to have Brady and expect a great event and turnout,” said Library Director Kathy Growney. “In particular, given that it’s a presidential election year, Brady’s book will be an added breath of fresh air in an already exciting year in New Hampshire.”

Since 2005 Brady has worked at New Hampshire Public Radio, in a variety of roles. While serving as host of All Things Considered for four years, he interviewed presidential hopefuls, authors, state lawmakers and other notable Granite Staters. Today he reports for NHPR’s news team and hosts the podcast Primarily Politics as well as Weekend Edition on Saturdays and Sundays. He regularly guests hosts The Exchange, appears frequently on Word of Mouth and helps to anchor live coverage on election and primary nights.
Brady holds a master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from Emerson College in Boston and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. He and his wife, Sonya, live in Concord with their three children, Owen, Wyatt and Georgia.
Carlson’s book reading and signing will take place Wednesday, March 30 from 6:30-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served and copies of Carlson’s book will be for sale. Registration is recommended.
