CONCORD, NH – If you’ve thought about becoming a Conservation Officer, this could be your chance – the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is seeking applications for Conservation Officer Trainee vacancies. The closing date for filing an application is November 30, 2017.
“Being a Conservation Officer requires an in-depth understanding of wildlife, expert knowledge of hunting and fishing laws, physical fitness, and excellent ‘people skills’,” said Col. Kevin Jordan, Chief of Fish and Game’s Law Enforcement Division. “COs play a vital role in enforcing state wildlife laws and keeping conditions favorable for fish and wildlife throughout the state.”
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Law Enforcement Division is responsible for the enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to fish and wildlife. Fish and Game Conservation Officers prosecute their own cases involving offenders of wildlife law. They are also responsible for search and rescue operations, and enforcing off-highway recreational vehicle laws. See more at www.wildnh.com/law-enforcement.
The selection process includes a written examination, a physical aptitude test, and an oral board exam. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the date of the written examination (December 20, 2017). If selected, Conservation Officer Trainees gain experience working with Field Training Officers in every district of the state. They must also attend New Hampshire’s 16-week full-time police academy. After successful completion of the year-long trainee program, they are assigned to a permanent patrol area within the state.
