Sunshine returned to New Hampshire on Wednesday, but the Fisher Cats’ bats didn’t fully return in the make-up game for Tuesday’s rainout.
New Hampshire fell to the Erie SeaWolves 3-2 in the first half of their hump day doubleheader.
The Fisher Cats began the contest with a quick 1-2-3 top of the first followed three straight batters reaching base in the bottom of the inning. However, that bases loaded situation translated into only one run, with Ryan McBroom bringing home Jonathan Davis but also grounding into a double play, removing the potential for a big inning.
SeaWolves starter Beau Burrows would retire the next seven New Hampshire batters, allowing just one more run. That came in a fourth inning that could have held much more for the Fisher Cats, a fourth inning that would prove to be New Hampshire’s last hurrah.
Burrows and reliever Kurt Spomer combined to allow just five New Hampshire hits during the seven-inning contest, with Spomer holding the Fisher Cats at bay over the last two innings to earn his second save of the year.

The loss went to Glenn Sparkman, who was on the hook for home runs to Erie’s Kody Eaves and Gabriel Quintana. He’d leave after 3 2/3 innings of work, giving up just four hits, but those two hits over the fence proved to be enough for Erie.
Sparkman, assigned to New Hampshire on a rehab assignment, struck out one Erie batter and walked two during his first appearance in Manchester.
Those four hits would be the only hits by Erie batters, with Justin Shafer and Josh DeGraaf allowing just three men on base the rest of the way.
At the plate, Harold Ramirez contributed two hits in the loss for New Hampshire.
