MANCHESTER, NH – Slam Free Or Die – Poetry Open Mic & Slam continues its popular open mic poetry series July 27, 2017 at Stark Brewing Company. There will be a poetry open mic (there will be ‘Nerd’ theme for this weeks open mic, and folks are encouraged, but not required, to read their best nerdy work) followed by the first annual Slam Free or Die NERD SLAM! Doors open at 7pm along with sign ups for the open mic and slam. The show starts at 8pm. There is a $5 cover and this is an all-ages show.
About the NERD SLAM:
The Nerd Slam is one of the most popular daytime events held every year at the National Poetry Slam, and Slam Free or Die has adapted the format to launch a local version of the popular event. There will be 8 spots in the slam and there is a $10 buy-in. To compete, you must have a nerd poem you would like to read as your ‘victory lap’. Competitors sign-up by writing their name and their area of nerd expertise (comics, movies, video games, etc) on a slip of paper. Poets are chosen at random two at a time and go head-to-head in trivia competition, being quizzed by a panel of nerd judges on their selected topic (when judges can’t come up with a good question, the audience is sometimes asked to contribute questions!). Each poet is asked up to three questions on their topic. The first one to get one wrong is out and the winner advances to the next round (if both poets get all 3 questions right, they have to do a one question Sudden Death Star Wars Tie-Breaker). The eventual winner of the bracketed competition is crowned the 2017 Slam Free or Die Nerd Slam Champion, gets to perform their original nerd poem, and receives a huge prize pack with prizes donated by Double Midnight Comics, NeonBomb, and LevelUpGaming.

Slam Free Or Die @ Stark Brewing Company is a series of open mic nights for poets and spoken-word artists every Thursday night in Manchester, NH. There is an open mic every night and poetry slams are also held several times a month. Doors open and sign-ups begin at 7pm with open mic beginning at 8pm.
