Here’s a recap of what’s been going on lately with Southern New Hampshire University sports.
Men’s Soccer
Four first-half goals were more than enough as the Penmen pitched a 4-0 shutout in Vermont against Saint Michael’s on Wednesday.
Graduate student Alex Satrustegui (San Sebastian, Spain) scored twice, with freshman Sinisa Sprecakovic (Mannheim, Germany) and senior Michael Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.) also taking goals earlier in the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Quinn (Manchester, N.H.) stopped all three shots he saw in what was his first career clean sheet.
The Penmen (5-4-3, 3-3-2 Northeast-10) return to action Saturday, Oct. 26 (4 p.m.) when they take on the University of New Haven.
Field Hockey
The ninth-ranked Penmen were just minutes away from a shutout, but with seven goals in hand, SNHU took a definitive victory against Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday.
Junior Hélène Servais (Brussels, Belgium) tallied two goals, with the Penmen also getting goals from senior Alison Hildreth (Hampton, N.H.), freshman Lisa Hagel (Driehuis, The Netherlands), sophomore Emily Campbell (Raynham, Mass.), senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) and sophomore Cameron Whelan (Seabrook, N.H.)
Southern New Hampshire University now has six straight wins, climbing to 12-3 on the year and 9-2 in the Northeast-10.
Next up is seventh-ranked Assumption College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Women’s Tennis
With the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament set to begin, the Penmen will enter with the conference’s Rookie of the Year.
Freshman Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic), going 9-2 in the regular season and winning the conference’s Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors three times during the year.
She is the second straight Rookie of the Year for the Penmen following teammate Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico).
Head Coach Greg Coache also earned Northeast-10 Coach of the Year honors, the 10th time he has earned that award in 13 years, leading the Penmen to an 11-1 record this fall.
