MANCHESTER, NH – As of noontime, the National Weather Service was calling for a “powerful winter storm” bringing blizzard conditions to the Northeast. The following update was posted just before 12 p.m.

Tuesday’s blizzard is due to a strong low-pressure system tracking up the Eastern seaboard. Snow will continue through the afternoon and intensify into the evening.

Snowfall rates of one to three inches per hour are expected.

Gusting winds of 30 to 40 mph peaking at 50 mph along the coast will result in blizzard conditions through the evening. The storm will come to an end overnight into early Wednesday morning.

You can expect Heavy snow accumulations of 15-20 inches with the heaviest snow totals expected Monday afternoon into Monday night. Snow will taper off early Wednesday.

Temperatures will remain in the mid-20s and low 30s, with poor visibility on roadways – up to one-quarter mile or less. Strong wind gusts may also lead to scattered power outages. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities will also lead to whiteout conditions in some areas, making travel extremely dangerous.
