NORFOLK, Va. – The Manchester Monarchs leave Virginia with a sweep of the Norfolk Admirals, posting a 4-3 victory on Saturday night, the third straight on their current road trip.

Norfolk’s Luke Nogard answered an early Manchester goal to bring both teams into the first intermission even, and both teams each added another goal in the second period, first from Manchester captain David Kolomatis and then by Norfolk’s Manny Gialedakis.

The Admirals grabbed their first lead this week against the Monarchs thanks to a Tony Cammarata goal 1:44 into the third period, but the Monarchs tied things up again thanks to Nic Pierog’s unassisted goal just under two minutes later.

Michael Doherty provided the deciding goal for Manchester just past the halfway point of the third period.

Doherty set up shop right in front of the Admirals’ net, deftly taking a quick pass from teammate Eric Shurhamer and converting it into a rapid wrister for the score.

For the third straight game, the Monarchs outshot the Admirals, leaving them with a league best of 36.18 shots per game so far. Despite all the shots, Manchester could not find a power play goal over the three-game set, leaving them at 5-for-73 following Saturday’s action.

The Monarchs now return to New England to complete their road trip, facing the Worcester Railers on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7:05 p.m.
