WORCESTER, Mass. – The Manchester Monarchs recorded their first shutout of the year on Friday night, defeating the Worcester Railers, 4-0.

After a tepid start for both sides, Nic Pierog grabbed his 12th goal of the season, opening scoring 7:44 into the second period.

Pierog added another goal midway through the third period, but not before additional goals from Michael Doherty and Matt Marcinew.

Manchester only had one other shot in the third period, outshot by the Railers 37-27 overall.

Doherty ended just an assist away from a Gordie Howe hat trick, getting five for fighting early in the second after an altercation with Josh Holmstrom.
