Manchester Monarchs.svgMANCHESTER, N.H. – The Manchester Monarchs managed to get a point on Friday night, but couldn’t get the second one, falling 4-3 in a shootout loss to the Reading Royals.

Reading took a 2-1 lead into the second period, and there it would remain until Nic Pierog scored his second goal of the contest just 29 seconds into the third period.

Manchester got the lead just past the halfway mark of the third with Spencer Watson’s 22nd goal of the year, but Matt Pohlkamp evened things up with just under two minutes in regulation with his second goal of the contest.

Neither side could find a winner in overtime, with Reading’s Josh MacDonald scoring the only goal in the shootout for either team.

Watson and Tony Cameranesi also added two assists apiece, each coming on Pierog’s earlier goals.

Manchester (28-24-1-2) is now just four points behind Adirondack for the second spot in the North Division, following Adirondack overtime loss to Maine on Friday night.

Maine will seek another win on Saturday night against the Monarchs, with puck drop scheduled at SNHU Arena for 6 p.m.
