Monarchs’ early goals beat Maine

PORTLAND, Maine – The Manchester Monarchs earned a crucial win over the Maine Mariners on Friday night, returning to New Hampshire with a 2-1 victory.

Monarchs Goaltender Charles Williams finished the night with 37 saves, with only Greg Chase’s goal getting past him.

That goal was preceded by an opening stanza goal by Jack Nevins from the left circle, followed by what the game-winning goal by Nic Pierog with just under three minutes left in the first period.

Manchester (20-18-1-1) is now 3-6 on the year against Maine (20-18-0-1), with just one point separating the teams in the middle of the ECHL North Division standings.

Both teams play again on Saturday in Manchester with puck drop scheduled for 6 p.m.
