BRAMPTON, Ont., Canada – The Manchester Monarchs opened up their 2018-’19 season with plenty of goals, but no victory to show for it.

Manchester fell 6-5 in a shootout on Saturday afternoon to the Brampton Beast, despite leading 4-1 at the first intermission.

Brampton’s only goal during the first two periods came from a quick rebound by Erik Bradford, briefly tying the contest up before Ryan Kujawinski gave the lead back to the Monarchs.

The Beast tied the game again 5:25 into the third period with a top shelf shot from Nathan Todd, with David Pacan erasing yet another Manchester lead just a minute after Spencer Watson provided Manchester its first power play goal of the year.

Pacan’s goal came with just two minutes left in regulation, and nothing could separate the two teams until a goal from Todd gave Brampton victory in the sixth round of the shootout.

Along with Watson and Kujawinsk’s goals, the Monarchs also obtained goals from Sam Kurker, Zeb Knutson and Tony Cameranesi, with Watson, Cameranesi and Kurker also each providing an assist.

The Monarchs return to the ice Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m., when they finish the two-game series with the Brampton Beast. Manchester returns home on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. to face the Newfoundland Growlers.
