MANCHESTER, NH – A Goffstown woman was pulled over at 6:40 p.m. on April 12 due to reports of erratic operation after a motorist called to report seeing the 2003 Kia Spectra driving erratically on South Willow Street. The caller stated the female operator appeared to be sleeping while driving toward Queen City Avenue.   The concerned caller followed the vehicle until a police officer was able to locate the car on Varney Street.

Officer Ryan Heile followed the 2003 Kia westbound on Varney Street and observed the vehicle swerve several times into the opposite lane of travel. The officer conducted a stop at Varney Street and Precourt Street to check the condition of the operator, who was later identified as Amy Lemieux, 27, of Goffstown.

Lemieux’s 4-year old daughter was in the backseat of the car during the stop. The officer checked on the condition of both occupants of the car. Lemieux’s erratic speech and dilated pupils indicated she was most likely under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He conducted a field sobriety test on Lemieux after her daughter was placed into a police vehicle with a properly secured car seat. Officer Matt Brown cared for the 4-year-old while the field sobriety test took place.

Lemieux failed the field sobriety test and was placed into custody. A search incident to arrest revealed she was in possession of several prescription pills including buprenorphine hydrochloride, clonazapam, gabapentin and buspirone, and two straws.

Lemieux was charged with: aggravated driving under the influence of drugs/liquor (operating with someone under 16 years of age); reckless conduct and 4 counts possession of a controlled drug. The youngster was seated in an unsecured car seat, so Lemieux was also issued a motor vehicle summons for child restraint.

The child was transported to police headquarters by Officer Brown. The child’s grandmother picked her up a short time later and Lemieux was released on $5,000 cash/surety. She is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester for a probable cause hearing on April 25, 2016.
