Missing license plate leads to arrest on felony drug, gun charges

MANCHESTER, NHGary Fitzgerald, 35, of Manchester, faces multiple felony charges after he was pulled over for driving a car with no license plates. Police say they found him in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and a stolen handgun, among other items.

Manchester Police Officer William Dann and New Hampshire State Trooper Andrew Frigon were working a high visibility patrol initiative on February 17 at 11:15 a.m. when they observed a 2014 Ford Focus without license plates in the area of Granite and Douglas streets.

They conducted a motor vehicle stop and spoke with Fitzgerald and a female passenger, who owned the vehicle. Both are from Manchester.

Trooper Frigon spoke with Fitzgerald as Officer Dann spoke with the passenger. Trooper Frigon determined Fitzgerald was operating after suspension/revocation, so he was removed from the vehicle and arrested for the misdemeanor offense. The trooper searched Fitzgerald and located a ballistic vest underneath his winter jacket as well as an assortment of prescription pills, 2.91 grams heroin and three syringes. Consent to search the motor vehicle was given and officers located additional items inside the car.

They located two digital scales, 12 empty cellophane bags, a stolen .22 caliber Beretta handgun and 1 Lidocaine patch. The gun was reported stolen on December 5, 2015 from a Manchester residence.

Fitzgerald was charged with sale/manufacturing a controlled drug; convicted felon in possession of a dangerous weapon; receiving stolen property; felonious use of body armor; and driving after suspension/revocation. He appeared in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on February 18, 2016.

Fitzgerald was arrested in January after he was stopped under similar circumstances and police found him in possession of 20 bags of heroin.

The passenger was not charged.
