MANCHESTER, NH – Wednesday night, founder of Millennium Running John Mortimer was joined by Larry Gagnon, Manchester Marathon Association president, to announce that Veterans Count is this year’s official charity for the Manchester City Marathon, on Sunday, November 12th.

Veterans Count, a program of Easterseals, provides financial services and support for military veterans and their families. Senior Vice President of Development, Joe Emmons, explained that $1,000 will allow them to assist one veteran, and has already raised $5,000.

The Manchester City Marathon traditionally is held on the first Sunday in November. Gagnon and Mortimer considered a Halloween theme, but decided to move the race a week later to fall on Veteran’s Day Weekend after Veterans Count was chosen as the official charity.

“We can do more for our community,” said Mortimer. “If we can get behind that, we can get behind anything.”

100 percent of funds raised will be received by Veterans Count. The organization will provide support by having volunteers serve as course marshals throughout the race day. Mortimer said the Manchester City Marathon also receives a plethora of volunteers from local high schools, colleges, and churches to run water stops, cheer on runners, and provide medical assistance.

“Our relationship is about saying thank you,” said Gagnon.

An anticipated 2,000 athletes will run the marathon, half-marathon, or relay the 11th annual Manchester City Marathon, powered by SNHU.
