In Preparation for the upcoming Primary Election on September 11, 2018, we’ll be running down the who, what, where, and when in our weekly campaign round-up — the pre-game show for the State General Election, set for November 6, 2018.
Congressional District 1
- Eddie Edwards (R) – Mayor Rudy Giuliani endorsed Edwards on August 1. State Rep. Fred Doucette (R, Salem), a co-chairman of President Donald Trump’s campaign in NH during the 2016 campaign, endorsed Edwards on August 2.
- Mark MacKenzie (D) – MacKenzie appeared at the Transgender Rally & Picnic at Victory Park on July 31.
- Deaglan McEachern (D) – McEachern was interviewed on WMUR Closeup and discussed healthcare, immigration, and the economy.
- Mindi Messmer (D) – Messmer was interviewed on WMUR Closeup and discussed the EPA, Medicare for All, and voting rights.
- Terence O’Rourke (D) – The campaign will hold a Virtual Town Hall Friday, August 3 at 7 p.m. Voters can submit questions in advance via email or type their questions on Facebook and O’Rourke will answer them live. He released his first video, Giving Back.
- Chris Pappas (D) – End Citizens United endorsed Chris Pappas. Pappas launched his first ad buy on WMUR with a TV spot. He appeared at the Transgender Rally & Picnic at Victory Park on July 31. He will appear at the Sweeney Post, 251 Maple St. on August 7 at 11:30 AM, at a Manchester house party on August 14 at 5:30 PM, and at The Bookery, 844 Elm Street on August 20 at 5:30 PM.
- Maura Sullivan (D) – Sullivan released a TV ad. On August 7, former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius will join Sullivan for campaign stops in Rochester and Portsmouth to discuss the opioid crisis, long-term care for our aging population, and access to mental health treatment..
Governor
- Jilletta Jarvis (L) – Jarvis will host a rally, Save Our Children, on Saturday, August 10 at 1 p.m. at the State House courtyard in Concord, to support reforming the state Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). It will include a donation drive for Bikers Against Child Abuse. RSVP.
- Molly Kelly (D) – On July 31, Kelly highlighted her support for renewable energy in Hanover, Northhampton, Marlborough, Nashua, and Penacook. On August 2, Kelly shared her Family Economic Security Plan at the Children’s Museum in Dover.
- Steve Marchand (D) – On July 30 in Manchester, Marchand unveiled his plan to increase renewable energy 50 percent by 2030. He posted videos of his August 1 introduction and Q&A with Kelly and Marchand in Exeter. Marchand discussed plans for local economic development in Franklin on August 2.
- Marchand and Kelly will speak to the Manchester Democrats on Saturday, August 11 at 10 a.m. at 167 Elm St.
Executive Council District 4
- Gray Chynoweth attended a #StandWithPlannedParenthood party on July 31 at the home of Christine Pattison, and also made the rounds at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce picnic in the park on Aug. 1.
- Garth Corriveau was endorsed by the Professional Fire Fighters of NH. He will be at a house party at 96 Eve Street on August 19 at 4 p.m.
- Rights and Democracy and Manchester Ink Link will co-host a forum for candidates Gray Chynoweth and Garth Corriveau on Thursday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Manchester Public Library.
Secretary of State
The Secretary of State (SOS) does not appear on the ballot; The 424 newly-elected members of the state’s House and Senate choose the SOS in December. SOS Bill Gardner has served for 42 years.
- Colin Van Ostern spoke at a “Free & Fair” forum on August 2 at the Manchester home of Matt Wilhelm (D-District 42), a candidate for state representative.
State Senator
- Donna Soucy (D-18) will headline the Annual Sweeney Post Kick-Off, 251 Maple Street on August 27.
State Representative
- Willis Griffith (D-Ward 11) will hold a campaign countdown celebration at Fricker’s Neighborhood Grill, 250 Dubuque Street, on August 11 at 6:30 p.m. RSVP

Filing Deadlines for Nomination Papers:
- August 8, 2018 – Last day to submit signed nomination papers to Supervisors of the Checklist in town or city
- August 29, 2018 – Supervisors must have nomination papers certified for candidates and organizations
- September 5, 2018 – Last day to file certified nomination papers with Secretary of State’s Office
