Key issues | Specific Proposals |
Grow the economy | Reverse the scourge of opiate misuse and addiction. Deliver America’s best pre-K through 12 public education outcomes. Smart public infrastructure investment encourages private investment in New Hampshire. Make New Hampshire America’s friendliest state for entrepreneurs. |
Abortion | Join a growing number of states in codifying the right to abortion at the state level. Provide public funding of abortion services. Eliminate existing restrictions on abortion. |
Addiction and recovery | Prevention by increasing penalties, continued decrease in prescription limits for various Schedule II opiates, decreasing the chances of such opiates being available inside the home, and education. Interdiction and treatment by immediate response, followed by treating the person as an individual needing treatment and support via drug courts, increased resources for recovery centers, and additional resources for local public safety departments. Prove a multi-year, multi-faceted commitment to recovery. |
Legalization of cannabis | It has legitimate medical benefits, does not have the harmful effects of tobacco and alcohol, will more appropriately redirect public safety and judicial resources, will not lead to increased use, especially among younger people, and will generate meaningful revenue. We have the experience to do it well. Based on the experience of other states including California, Colorado, and Washington. |
Gender identity and expression | We must prioritize seeking equivalent non-discrimination protection for such areas as: Employment non-discrimination, housing non-discrimination, public accommodations non-discrimination, vredit and lending non-discrimination (in this case, this is also needed for cases of sexual orientation, as well – this specific protection does not currently exist for NH), and adoption and foster care non-discrimination (also needed for both gender identity and expression, as well as for sexual orientation, in New Hampshire). |
Energy & the environment | Set a new Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) goal of 50% by 2030.Modernize our electric grid to lower energy costs, and maximize the use of local renewables. Focus on strategies which encourage homegrown, sustainable energy. Increase funding, awareness, and accessibility to energy efficiency programs. Oppose Northern Pass and Granite Bridge. |
Family policy | A firm commitment that New Hampshire’s women and families have full control over their reproductive choices. Paid family leave. Provide a benefit of up to three months of paid leave. Expand early childhood education to pre-K. |
Gun reform | Respect the Second Amendment and meaningfully reduce gun violence: Universal background checks, red flag laws, 48-hour waiting period, ban on military-style semi-automatic weapons, banning bump stocks, empowering local communities to disallow firearms on school grounds, and licensing for concealed-carry. |
Immigration | Pass a TRUST (Transparency and Responsibility Using State Tools) bill like that in Connecticut. Minimize the use of local law enforcement resources for federal immigration enforcement purposes. Allow undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver’s license. Expand in-state tuition to eligible children of undocumented immigrants. |
